What is life without little pleasures?

Like waking up on a Sunday morning, with most of the household asleep. The BB is up, snuggling up next to me on my bed, and his new cycle is ready for its first ride out.* So we pump air into the tyres, and I suddenly remember, it might be a fun idea to cycle alongside him, instead of running behind... so I pull out my not-touched-for-nearly-2-years cycle, give it a wipe, pump some air into the tyres, and off we go for a ride around the park. Man was it fun! And may just add, the wake-up time was past 9. ;) Thank God for Sunday mornings when everyone sleeps in. Touchwood for the little happy moments in our lives.

Hope you had a good fun weekend.

[*This is an event I do not wish to forget, and am jotting it down for my own records. The BB, is done with training wheels... and it took... yes hold your breath, just 1 evening. Off went with the training wheels, and he was cycling away with perfect balance. I had heard of people who have done it, but I was always a bit skeptical, till I actually saw my first born go right at it. Since he had long outgrown his  old cycle, the tallest ones available with training wheels, it was time for a new cycle. And I guess I was as excited about it, as him.]

This was shared by a friend on Facebook(where else??), and I simply loved it. Loved it, not just because, how true it is, but also because I believe in preserving and fixing things in life in general. I could spiral this into a post about how materialistic the world has become, with little value for commitments and promises, but that would not make it a fun read or a happy post. And what then is the point of writing at all?

Coming back to it, I wonder if you like to fix or replace in general.I think a good mix of both works well for me, in both material goods and relationships. When I was younger, I used to envy the rich private-school mates who replaced everything, had new things ever so often, and never started a new school year, with last year's stuff. But I have wisened up with age. Wastefulness does not appeal to me much now. Infact, I miss the big fat bottom drawer of a chest, filled with old rags my mother had, and which used to be put to use well and often. Why throw away what can find a different use well.

A little this and a little that

My mind is often a jumbled ball of thoughts. I will find myself thinking about something or someone, and wonder how it started, and there will be such a complicated trail to follow to reach the starting point, and there I would see, it is in no way related to where I ended up. Does that happen to you? For example, I will see some beautiful flowers in someone's garden, that will lead me to think about a relative who likes gardening, then I will think about someone related to that relative, then it may go onto an incident involving that person and me, and then that might lead me to thinking how a similair incident happened elsewhere and so on and on and on, till I am left with no idea, that it had all begun with seeing some pretty flowers. And thus it is with writing on the blog. I come with these brilliant(atleast I think they are), ideas to write about, and I never find the time to quite sit down and type it out. And when I do infact find a couple of minutes to spare, I am bereft of any ideas to write about. I guess all the 'brilliance', just jumps right out of this brain.

It was a big weekend this past one, we had a big Pujan ceremony on Saturday and then Sunday was Father's Day in Australia, so we were out and about, which for me basically meant no cooking. And by a twist of fate, got to ride in a bus with the BB and the Smallie. Both were thrilled, especially, the BB, who enjoyed his first ever commute on a proper bus. The only trouble was keeping them seated, and ensuring they don't press the 'stop' button meant to alert the driver to stop at the next bus-stop. Being Sunday, the roads were traffic free, and we had a quick trip back home from the city in the bus. It is fun riding the bus in Queensland, with all its undulating terrain. I think I am going to do it more often. I was so busy managing them, that did not click a pic, and I regret that now!

As spring is setting in, my want to garden and grow things is on the rise. Last year was such a disappointment, since it was my first attempt ever at gardening, and all was well till the ants came in and destroyed every bit of my efforts. I was angry and I gave up. I am just trying to revive my plants from the gross neglect they have faced till now, and already the ants are back, wrecking havoc. I go to shops, almost everyone one of them are selling plants and seedlings, and I work very hard on controlling my urge to just go and get some, because I don't want to repeat last year's cycle, unless, I am completely certain about everything. Wish me luck and have a great week ahead friends.

Bringing 'it' to Life

Hello world! Not sure who will be reading this, or when for that matter. So a little request, if you read this, just drop in a Hi(or Hello, or Namaste or anything else that you feel like) in the comment section below. It will just be nice to know someone had a read, and hopefully not a boring one. I am thinking what should the introductory post on a blog be about? How much will be too much and just how little will be too little? Should it be an introduction to the blog, or should it be a relevant post? Not sure... but then hey, its just my personal blog right? I can set the rules, do as I feel right, and hopefully still remain interesting enough to be read.

This blog is about me, my family and hopefully a record of memoirs that will be fun for all of us to read a few years from now. There will not be a fixed topic or agenda to the posts, but reflections from here, recollections from there, some events, some fun and some more. There will be laughs and maybe an occasional tear jerker, but all in all, I hope it turns out to be a happy place, with happy memories and posts. We will see as it grows. I has been over three years since I quit personal blogging for lack of time, as I get back into it, hope I can persevere longer, and have the patience to blog, after long breaks, and keep it going. The good thing, the hubby is by my side this time, and is committed to do a few posts every now and then.

About us, we are a family of four. The hubby, my two sons, and me. From India, and in Brisbane, Australia for the past few years, it is seeming more and more likely that we are here for the long haul. We are a bit publicity shy(as if we are celebrities, and the paparazzi is chasing us), or should I say privacy conscious, hence you might rarely see photos of us here, but what you will get is a glimpse into our lives, fun, chaotic and sometimes plain crazy, but fun all the same. As it goes along you will know us by our names, but just as we begin, let me name the four characters you will come across most often here, the PM(Papa Man, and yes he is the head of the family) or the hubby and other author of the blog, me, who will also be referred to as the MH (Mother Hen or Madame Hurried, since I am always short of time) . And let me introduce the next two characters, who will most likely be the stars here, by their blog names(something akin to having a nom de plume) , our first born, the six year old boy who will be called The BB(The Big Boy or the Big Brother)  and the little, almost two year old tornado of a boy we have, The Smallie(because he is the baby of the family). These for my friends are the dashing DMello quadrant, who will tell you their tales as we go along. I hope this blog makes for an interesting read, as we write and tell about our lives. Welcome to The DMellos Down Under.
